HorizonHelp.org, an online database of resources for Howard County, contains over 80 resources specifically for youth. Job opportunities, mentoring and volunteer opportunities, clubs, recreation, support groups, enrichment and youth development programs are some examples. Teen 'Zine is a quarterly, online newsletter produced by teens for teens.

Readers will find opinion columns, creative writing, and news stories. Young people have laid the groundwork, designed and constructed the site, and regularly write almost all of the material.

The Search Institute has created a new website geared specifically toward parents and is a hub for information, advice and resources for parents so they can be the "most valuable players" in their children's lives. MVParents.com is supported by new TV advertising developed in partnership with Player Inc., the NFL players' association.

 


HC Drug Free, Inc. is a Howard County, Maryland non-profit organization helping teens avoid alcohol and other drugs. HC DrugFree offers programs, newsletters, and this website to empower parents to raise healthy, alcohol and drug-free teens. www.hcdrugfree.org

 



Leadership
ULeadership U (LU) is a four month program designed for high school juniors and focuses on problem solving and community service.  The program begins with a full week session and continues through the fall with team community service projects. LU culminates with project presentations at graduation in December.

The program emphasizes team building, personal growth, leadership skills, diversity, government, public safety, and health and human services. Students also participate in “Shadow Day” where they will have an opportunity to spend an entire day with a business or community leader to observe leadership in action and learn how businesses and organizations function.
